At the Ironman 70.3 California at Oceanside last Saturday, Reed lined up for a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1-mile run for the first time, by his memory, in five years. A New Zealand native who represented the United States in the Beijing Olympics, Reed did OK in Oceanside.

Natascha Badmann appears to have recovered from the bike crash at the 2007 Ford Ironman World Championship that sidelined her for most of last year after breaking the course record and beating a strong field that included defending Foster Grant Ironman 70.3 World Champion Joanna Zeiger. Brent McMahon managed to outrun the competitive men's field to take the men's title in New Orleans.

Red hot racing in Port Elizabeth - 04/10/2009
With temperatures topping 30 degrees Celsius it was more than the racing that was hot here in Port Elizabeth today. A thrilling day of racing that was to see new swim and overall course records for both men and women started as near 1,500 athletes thundered into the Indian Ocean to the sounds of African drummers and dancers performing on Hobie Beach.
